Dr. Rachel E. Carey, MS, PhD, PAg, PAS is a Production Consultant at TELUS Agriculture and Consumer Goods. She holds a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso, an MS in Animal Science with a focus in statistics from New Mexico State University, and a PhD in Animal Science from the University of Saskatchewan. She is a licensed Professional Agrologist in Alberta and Saskatchewan and a registered Professional Animal Scientist with the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists.
Between her MS and PhD programs, Dr. Carey spent four years working with the Individual Animal Management module at TELUS Agriculture (formerly Feedlot Health Management Services Ltd.), where she collected, managed, verified, cleaned, and analyzed sorting and carcass data for reporting and special projects. After completing her PhD, she served as the lead data analyst and project manager for Cattle Health Management (now TELUS Agriculture) for a year before transitioning into her current role. Earlier in her career, she taught middle school and high school science and math in Texas for five years.
With expertise in ruminant nutrition and experimental design, Dr. Carey specializes in using complex data sources and advanced analytical methods to support decision-making in the beef industry. Her work bridges the gap between research and industry by applying practical, data-driven approaches to improve efficiency and sustainability in beef production. She collaborates with producers and industry professionals to translate research findings into actionable strategies that enhance production outcomes.
Outside of work, Dr. Carey enjoys camping, hiking, and gardening in the summer. In the winter, she spends her time watching hockey and reading. She lives in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the heart of Canada’s Feedlot Alley, with her partner, three dogs, and three cats.
