Lingjun is a PhD student majoring in Swine Nutrition at the University of Alberta. She is originally from China. In 2016, she went to Canada and did her undergraduate degree in Animal Health (Companion Animal) at U of A. During her undergraduate, she found her interests in animal nutrition and had a great time working with Dr. Ruurd Zijlstra on an individual study about dietary fiber in pet food. She then wanted to further advance her understanding of animal nutrition, so she continued her master program with Dr. Zijlstra on the topic of dietary fiber’s role in weaned pig diets. After two years of running research, she learned about the importance of weaned pig management and the urgent needs to search for effective nutritional strategies to combat post-weaning challenges. Driven by her curiosity and passion to help the industry, she then transferred to a PhD program and took on another project which focuses on “Acid-binding capacity of weaned pig diets”. This project includes a growth performance trial in a commercial facility, an ileal-cannulated pig trial and a slaughter pig trial in the U of A research centre.
