Graduate Research Assistant
Kansas State University
Manhattan, Kansas
Jessica grew up in a military family, which entailed moving every couple of years to states including Louisiana, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Missouri, and Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences and Industry with a Bioscience/Biotechnology focus from Kansas State University in December 2022.
During her undergrad, Jessica enrolled in the undergraduate research course where she was exposed to research and the swine industry. Following this experience, she started working at the K-State swine unit, interned with Iowa Select Farms, and became an undergraduate research assistant for the Swine Nutrition team. After graduation, Jessica interned at Hill’s Pet Nutrition where she worked with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry until she joined the Swine Nutrition team in August of 2023 to begin her Master’s program.
Jessica’s research has primarily focused on SID Lys:CP in 25 to 55 lb pigs, determining if nitrogen is the limiting factor to feeding low protein, amino acid fortified diets, and the use of specialty soy proteins in nursery diets. Additionally, she has contributed to the development of K-State’s Enteric Center and validated its efficacy with an ABC-4 x CP model in enterotoxigenic E. coli F18 challenged nursery pigs.
