Originally from Illinois, Katelyn completed her Master’s degree with a focus on meat science at the University of Illinois in 2021. During her Master’s, she focused on applied pork research including feeding high oleic soybean oil to growing-finishing pigs and its subsequent impact on growth performance, meat quality, and bacon characteristics. Katelyn joined the Kansas State University Applied Swine Nutrition team in August of 2021. Her research has focused on in-feed acidifiers in nursery and finishing diets. This includes studies investigating optimal feeding duration and inclusion level using benzoic acid and sodium diformate. Additionally, she developed a phosphorus release curve for a novel phytase source to aid nutritionists in diet formulation. In the second half of her PhD, she conducted a series of trials evaluating the composition and nutritional value of soybean processing by-products. Katelyn recently started as an Assistant Research Professor at Kansas State University at the beginning of March.
