Leidy J. Torres Mendoza is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Hans Stein at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is originally from Colombia and received her B.S. degree in animal science and her master’s degree in food science and technology from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Leidy worked in the Monogastric Nutrition Laboratory as a laboratory manager for four years. During this time, she managed around 200 projects and developed methods to determine minerals and digestible markers in different sources using an ICP-OES. Her expertise helped maintain high accuracy and efficiency standards in the laboratory and proper use of complex analytical instruments such as GLC and HPLC. She is a co-author of 12 research papers and presented findings at national and international conferences. Her research on soybean products and reactive lysine is novel and could contribute to the precision diet formulation for weanling pigs, benefiting the swine industry.
