Dr. Julie Schulthess oversees immunity related research questions for Phileo by Lesaffre since 2018. She completed her doctorate cellular and mucosal immunology at Institut Pasteur and hospital Necker in Paris, France, on the immune mechanisms controlling intestinal inflammation. Later she moved to the University of Oxford, UK, where she focused her research on how microbial-derived metabolite such as butyrate shape the immune system in the intestine. Her research interests include the function of myeloid cells (macrophages, dendritic cells) during intestinal inflammation and the interaction between bacterial metabolites from microbiota (SCFA, butyrate...) and innate immune cells at steady state and during diseases.
