Dr. William L. (Billy) Flowers joined the Animal Science Department at North Carolina State University in 1987 where he currently is a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor with teaching, extension, and research responsibilities. He received his B.S. in Animal Science from Virginia Tech and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Reproductive Physiology from the University of Missouri. His research program focuses on improving fertility in swine and has resulted in over 170 peer-reviewed publications and 485 popular press/extension articles. He received outstanding teaching awards from U.S.D.A. (2005) and the American Society of Animal Science (2017); was recognized as a Swine Industry Master by National Hog Farm Magazine (2007); and received the National Pork Board’s Distinguished Service Award (2019) and North Carolina Pork Council’s W.W. Shay Award for Industry Distinction (2024). He currently is the Editor/Associate Editor for two peer-reviewed journals and on the editorial board for six others. He has served on 40 national review panels/task forces that deal with issues related to animal and veterinary science.
