Brooke Smith, DVM, PhD - Veterinary Nutrition Lead for Cargill Animal Nutrition-Pork Solutions.
Dr. Brooke Smith is a dual DVM-PhD graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through the Veterinary Medical Scholars Program. She completed her PhD in Animal Science under Dr. Ryan Dilger where she participated in several trials aiming to understand nutrition and health interactions in swine. Specifically, her core research focused on soy isoflavones and their influence on the growth performance and clinical responses to PRRSV infection in weaned pigs. Following the completion of her PhD, she completed her final two years of veterinary school while having the opportunity to participate in numerous externships in private swine practice and allied industries. Since graduating with her DVM, she has been acting as the Veterinary Nutrition Lead for the Cargill Animal Nutrition North American Pork Technical Service Team. In this role, she continues to pursue understanding the nutrition and health interactions through development of nutritional approaches to help support disease-challenged pigs, collaboration with both internal and external research efforts, and consultation with customers and prospects facing disease challenges. She currently resides in Mason, Michigan with her husband Steve, son Mark, and daughter Laurel.
